: Configuring the XML Menu File

To start, open the "menu.xml" file with a text editor like Notepad or TextEdit. When the Flash movie starts, it looks for this file and breaks down the data contained in the button elements. It takes the data and generates the menu based on the data contained in this file.

All you have to do is create your menu in this format, and Flash will automatically generate the menu. Green represents what one menu item will look like in XML. To change the main button text, replace what you see highligthed in blue. To change the subbutton text replace the orange. Replace "theswiff.swf" with the URL of the target movie or page. Make sure the URL is realitve to the swf containing the MenuClip movieclip. You can have the menu getURL, loadMovie, or just about anything else. Next I'll show you how to get the buttons working with gotoFunction.
